OUR HISTORY
The idea for Camp Burnett originated in 1948 as an outgrowth of a desire of members of the Park Cities Lions Club to broaden the Club’s services to the Youth of Dallas. in 1952, after funds had been accumulated from annual exhibition benefit baseball games between SMU and professional teams, and three annual presentations of the Parks Cities Lions Minstrels, a suitable site for the Camp was selected and purchased. The first tract consisted of 23 acres bordering Lake Grapevine. Later an additional 25 acres was leased from the Federal Government. Youth groups have enjoyed the benefits of camping and other outdoor activities, exploring nature amid the beauty and spacious of Camp Burnett. Since 1952, or 150,000 “camper-days” have been recorded as a result of the thousands of children and young adults each year who spend one day or more at Camp Burnett.
